Douglas Shingler, Member
I served as an Aircraft Technician in the Royal Navy for 29 years, mainly involved with helicopters. I then spent 10 years with the Meat and Livestock Commission working on BSE controls.
I was elected to Vale Royal Borough Council in 2003 and was appointed to the Sir John Deane’s Foundation Scheme Governors in 2007. I had the great privilege of being elected Deputy Mayor in 2006 and As the Penultimate Mayor of Vale Royal in 2007.
Following the demise of Vale Royal Borough Council in 2009 I was appointed as a cooptative member of the Foundation Scheme Governors, elected Vice Chairman in 2011 and Chairman in 2013. As such I was an ex-officio Member of the Sir John Brunner Foundation from its inception until my retirement from the Foundation in October 2025. I was re-elected as a Member in December 2025.
